For the first time in years, Apple added a brand new MacBook to their MacBook line-up: the MacBook Neo, positioning it as the company’s new entry-level laptop and most affordable notebook to date. Starting at $599, the device is designed to expand access to the Mac lineup with a lower price point while maintaining many of Apple’s signature features.
Design and Display
The MacBook Neo features an aluminum enclosure and is available in four colors: blush, indigo, silver, and citrus. Apple says the chassis is built for durability and uses a more material-efficient manufacturing process.
The laptop includes a 13-inch Liquid Retina display with a resolution of 2408 × 1506, 500 nits of brightness, and support for one billion colors. An anti-reflective coating is intended to improve visibility in different lighting conditions.
Performance and Hardware
At the core of the MacBook Neo is Apple’s A18 Pro chip, which powers the iPhone 16 Pro series and the company says enables faster performance for everyday tasks such as web browsing, document creation, and photo editing. Apple claims the system is up to 50 percent faster in common tasks and up to three times faster in on-device AI workloads compared with leading PCs powered by recent processors from Intel.
The device features a 5-core GPU and a 16-core Neural Engine for AI-related tasks, including image editing and system-level intelligence features. The fanless design allows for silent operation.
Battery Life and Input Devices
Apple rates the MacBook Neo for up to 16 hours of battery life under typical usage conditions. Actual performance may vary depending on workload and configuration. The laptop includes a Magic Keyboard, a large Multi-Touch trackpad, and support for Touch ID on select models for biometric authentication and Apple Pay authorization.
Camera, Audio, and Connectivity
For video calls, the MacBook Neo is equipped with a 1080p FaceTime HD camera and dual microphones with beamforming. Audio is delivered through dual side-firing speakers with support for Spatial Audio and Dolby Atmos.
In terms of connectivity, the device offers two USB-C ports, a headphone jack, Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 6. One of the USB-C ports supports external display output.
Software and Ecosystem Integration
The MacBook Neo ships with macOS Tahoe, which includes built-in productivity and communication apps such as Safari, Messages, and FaceTime. The operating system also integrates Apple Intelligence features, including writing assistance and live translation tools.
For users with iPhones, the laptop supports Continuity features such as Handoff, Universal Clipboard, and iPhone Mirroring, enabling cross-device workflows and file transfers.
